Hi, I’m Rebbecca and I sure have had an interesting life!
I’ve always run my own businesses, I’ve travelled the world and met some wonderful people over the years. Life was never smooth sailing all the time (trust me there have been some rough patches) but for the most part, I have lived a rich, adventurous life on my own terms. That was until I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2017 and had a bilateral mastectomy 3 months later. As a single mum to a then 3-year-old, a busy Director of a successful arts education company and a part time fitness instructor, this diagnosis severely scratched my record. Though it will never play the same, I know I am equipped to build the new, greatly improved soundtrack to my life. I am already doing that!
In the early stages of my career, I taught personal development courses to adults and young people at colleges and schools. I was regularly described as an energetic, motivating educator. Having lived through some tough periods, I knew I had to learn more about living a happy, fulfilled life on my own terms. I have been on a personal development journey for the last 25 years. Some of my favourite authors include: Anthony Robbins, Iyanla Vanzant, Byron Katie, Les Brown and Art Berg.
As the Director of Strawberry Words (a creative consultancy) and a former fitness instructor, I have always honed in on what drives people’s motivation to improve their lives.
In 2015, I was thrilled to become a TV presenter on The Wassifa Caribbean Show for a local TV channel in Birmingham, UK, where I interviewed successful music artists (including Kirk Franklin, Joyce Simms and Freddie McGregor), business owners, sports celebrities, spiritual and community leaders. My eagerness and interest in learning about other’s journeys to happiness and success has always existed in my life. No more so when I was faced with the overwhelmingly traumatic cancer diagnosis.
Now on I’m determined to avoid a breast cancer recurrence and have turned to a non-meat diet, I no longer drink alcohol, I am maintaining my fitness levels and focusing on mind-calming activities to reduce stress.
It is my mission to spread the word about disease prevention through healthy living, winning – despite adversity and living life on one’s own terms. I do this by blogging, public speaking, coaching, mentoring, facilitating and teaching workshops, and sharing on social media.
